The Nordfjord region was recently highlighted in a fantastic episode of the popular German travel program Ostseereport on NDR. The feature dives deep into the history, living culture, and traditional craftsmanship that make our fjord unique.
Titled "Der Nordfjord – Norwegens unterschätzter Fjord" ("The Nordfjord – Norway's Underrated Fjord"), the 44-minute episode explores the region's diverse landscapes, with a special focus on the rich Viking heritage preserved here in Nordfjordeid.The NDR television crew spent time getting to know the people and the techniques behind our maritime history.
The episode takes viewers behind the scenes to the workshop of master woodcarver Rolf Taraldset, who shares the intricate, historic craftsmanship required to create the magnificent dragon head and tail for the Myklebust ship.
Following a visit to the historic Myklebust Gravemound, the TV team stepped inside Sagastad for exclusive interviews with the team that brings this history to life. The broadcast features insights from traditional boatbuilder Jakob Helseth from Bjørkedalen, Sagastad’s boatswain Harald Kolseth, and our Jacob Bredesen. Together, they discuss the authentic clinker-built techniques that have defined Norwegian boatbuilding for centuries.

To truly understand Viking seafaring, theory isn't enough. The TV crew joined our team out on the water in Davik to row the Viking ship Ask, experiencing the rhythm, teamwork, and kinetic energy of the vessel firsthand.The feature beautifully rounds off our story by showcasing spectacular footage from the spectacular Myklebust ship sea launch, bringing the journey from the gravemound to the open fjord full circle.
