We are happy to announce a new cooperation with the Myklebust farm, where you can get a guided tour of the farm, including entry to Sagastad. See the mound where the Myklebust ship was discovered.
Join us on a unique journey back to the Viking Age – all the way to the 9th century. Learn about the power struggles between Viking kings, stand on the very ground where history took place, and step aboard the world’s largest Viking ship.
The tour begins with a guided visit to the historic Myklebust Farm – the childhood home of Viking King Audbjørn and the site where the mighty Myklebust ship was discovered. You’ll hear vivid stories of life, death, and everyday life across a thousand years. Learn about the farm’s role in history, the king who was buried here, and the archaeological excavations that uncovered spectacular Viking Age treasures. One of the highlights is walking atop a real Viking burial mound – a truly unique experience. The tour ends at the farm with light refreshments served in the historic surroundings, accompanied by friendly animals such as horses, alpacas, and goats.
The journey continues to the Sagastad Viking Center, where you can go aboard the reconstructed Myklebust ship. Explore a modern, interactive exhibition featuring a 20-minute film about the findings and the king, virtual reality, a time-lapse of the ship’s construction, and engaging stations that dive deep into Viking history. Developed in collaboration with historians and archaeologists from the University of Bergen, the exhibition captivates visitors of all ages. The guided portion of the tour lasts about one hour, followed by as much time as you’d like to explore the Viking Center.
Please note that the experience includes a short, guided walk from Myklebust Farm to the museum.
