Row the Myklebust Ship

Step aboard a real piece of living history and experience the power of the world’s largest Viking ship. On the Myklebust ship, you are not just a passenger, but part of the crew. Together you row in rhythm, just as the Vikings once did, while the ship glides through the waters of the fjord.

The Myklebust ship only gets water under its keel once a year. This time, the chosen weekend is the last weekend of April. The ship will be pulled out on Thursday, April 23, and after just over a day of swelling, it will be ready for the year’s first voyage. You can now secure a place in the crew that will row the ship on Saturday, April 25.

Before the voyage, you will receive rowing training where you learn the technique and rhythm needed to row a Viking ship. The training takes place in smaller Viking boats or traditional boats (færingar). Along the way, experienced crew members will guide you and ensure a safe and authentic experience. The voyage itself lasts about 1–1.5 hours, and the number of places is limited.

This is a rare opportunity to experience history firsthand.
