Sagastad Viking Center is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated launch of the Myklebust ship on April 23, 2025. This year’s event promises to be even more spectacular, with the world’s strongest man, Martins Licis, set to launch the 16-ton ship single-handedly.
Following the viral success of the 2024 launch, which reached over 100 million people worldwide, the 2025 event is poised to capture even greater attention. The 2024 launch marked the first sea launch of the Myklebust ship since 2019, overcoming the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The meticulous planning and dedication of nearly 200 volunteers ensured a smooth and memorable event.
“From the mythical, to the unbelievable, Viking tales of conquests and their mastery of the seas has been the subject of many midnight binges for me. Every-time I’d go down this rabbit hole, my imagination would be taken over with vivid sensations in an attempt to simulate their incredible historical voyages. In awe, I’d wonder what it would be like to experience the excitement and hardships of exploration for myself. To be a part of launching a recreation of the largest Viking ship ever created is to literally live out a piece of this historical fantasy for me. On top of that, I get to visit the home country of my mentor of strength and source of immense inspiration, Odd Haugen AKA The Vicegrip Viking.”
- Martins Licis, Worlds Strongest Man
"We are incredibly excited to have Martins Licis join us for this year's launch. His participation highlights the strength and resilience of the Viking spirit, and we look forward to welcoming visitors from all over the world to experience this unique event."
